Imaging guidance<\/b><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-size:15px; padding:0px !important;\">The Breast Radiologist uses either:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-size:18px;\">Mammogram (stereotactic guidance)<\/li>\n<li style=\"font-size:18px;\">Ultrasound<\/li>\n<li style=\"font-size:18px;\">MRI<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"font-size:15px;\">to locate the exact spot in the breast.<\/p>\n<p><b class=\"\" style=\"font-size:18px; padding-top:0px !important;\">2. Local anesthesia<\/b><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-size:18px; padding-top:0px !important;\">The skin and deeper tissue are numbed with a local anesthetic. You won\u2019t feel sharp pain\u2014just pressure.<\/p>\n<p><b class=\"\" style=\"font-size:18px; padding-top:0px !important;\">3. Insertion of the thin wire<\/b><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-size:18px;\">A very thin hollow needle is inserted into the breast toward the<br \/>\nabnormal area.<\/li>\n<li style=\"font-size:18px;\">Once the tip reaches the lesion, a thin wire with a tiny hook at the end is released.<\/li>\n<li style=\"font-size:18px;\">The hook anchors into the tissue so it stays in place.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b class=\"\" style=\"font-size:18px; padding-top:0px !important;\">4. Needle removal<\/b><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-size:18px;\">The needle is removed, leaving only the small wire protruding from the skin.The wire guides the surgeon later.<\/p>\n<p><b class=\"\" style=\"font-size:18px; padding-top:0px !important;\">5. Securing the wire<\/b><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-size:18px;\">The wire is taped to your skin and covered with a protective dressing.<\/p>\n<p><b class=\"\" style=\"font-size:18px; padding-top:0px !important;\">6.
